The Baptism of our Lord
This Sunday, we celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord Jesus Christ, a feast that draws us to the banks of the Jordan River. In Luke's Gospel, we see Jesus approach John the Baptist, not as one in need of repentance but as a declaration of solidarity with humanity. As Jesus rises from the water, the heavens open, and the Spirit descends like a dove, accompanied by a voice declaring, “You are my Son, the Beloved; with you, I am well pleased” (Luke 3:22).
This moment is a revelation of Jesus’ identity and mission. His baptism is a marker of God’s love and the beginning of his public ministry, a ministry that calls us into a life of service, justice, and reconciliation. For us, baptism is both a gift and a calling. Through water and the Holy Spirit, we are cleansed from sin, adopted as children of God, and empowered to share in Christ’s work in the world.
Have you thought about baptism? Whether you’ve grown up in the church or are just beginning to explore faith, baptism is a sacred invitation into the family of God. It’s more than a rite of passage, it’s a lifelong journey of transformation and grace. In baptism, we affirm that God knows and loves us completely and calls us to a life of abundant joy and purpose.
If you or your children have not been baptized, I invite you to explore this next step in the faith journey. Reach out to me to learn more about what baptism means and how to prepare for it. Together, let us celebrate the joy of this feast and renew our own baptismal promises to “seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself.”
Come and see what God is doing in your life and the life of this community.
